Apple Vs Open Source Drivers
Recently I’ve been interested in the whole OSX86 project, due in part to my sister wanting a Mac and not living in a house made of money, but I jest.
It can already be seen that people want affordable OSX systems, so much so that already two companies have sprung up (and been quickly shut down) and, as such, the days of the OSX=Mac rule are numbered.
However, I feel that it will be an eventual shift towards open source drivers that will really start to push things over the edge. Currently, installing OSX86 on most systems requires quite a bit of technical know-how (though mostly no heavy command line work) but should more companies release either open source drivers, or, in the rare cases like the MSI Wind team, producing their own Mac drivers, we may eventually reach the point where the majority of computer models and components produced in a year are OSX86 compatible and, while selling them may be illegal, it may enter into the same grey area as piracy currently is.
Anyway, that may have been a bit heavy on the “if”s and “maybe”s but, where there is a will (and money to be made), there’s a way.
