Searching for the answer, Searching for the damn wireless card.
Having tried and failed to get my Pluscom ZD1211b card to work as a wireless access point for my DS and eventually to act as a wireless point as part of my home server I gave up and decided to search for a different wireless card. Finding a wireless card that would work with Ubuntu was somewhat difficult as I was speciffically looking for one that supported AP (Access point) or Master mode; which would allow it to act as a router does.
Information was pretty thin on the ground but after some work I have decided to buy an Atheros card which go for about £11 on ebay. I can now begin pricing up my home server (though I already have most of the parts.).
