Game: Extreme°c
Had this game idea and instead of letting it sit in the back of my mind I am putting it up for the world to see!
Basically the concept is this: You play a duo who find them selves in some form of deteriorating research center in the middle of nowhere in a very cold climate but the entire is powered geothermally by pumping ice and snow down into magma filled cavities. Anyway there is extreme heat and extreme cold all around you; and “why?” you may ask. For the purposes of game mechanics, why else?
One of the players has within them nano bots (or something or other) that are part of a key to a box they are inexplicably chained to. At the right place and time, ensuring the nanobots are intact the case can be opened and plot twists galore.
The nano bots have one major problem. They were designed for this purpose to be injected into people accompanying nuclear weapons so that in case of an emergency the person wouldn’t need to kill themselves to stop the nanobots being used to arm the nuke. Instead all they would need to do is change their body temperature rapidly, either by panicking or other means. The idea being that it would be hard for an enemy to keep the hostage calm.
The player is now faced with a challenge. How to move around the facility where temperatures can change rapidly and without warning as snow comes in through the windows and lava coming up through the floor while keeping their follower from changing temperature too quickly?
Technical:
The character must guide a somewhat competent AI through various puzzles without allowing parts of the AIs body to cool too fast. If areas of the body cool or heat too quickly the nanobot count begins to decrease.
The game saves the various changes you have triggered in the environment and some things are one time only. Use the pillar of ice as a bridge over the lava and the bridge will melt and stay melted.
Additional idea 1: The nanobots also react to panic so you need to keep away from the various machine gun equipped robotic guards.
Additional idea 2: The player themselves is the same blood type as the AI so you can transfuse blood and share the count of nanobots. When standing close to each other nanobots are counted as one.
Additional idea 3: Different doors react do different amounts of nanobots and at different temperatures [you can change temperature gradually without loosing nanobots] rewarding you for completing an area or the game up to that point (the idea of having to maintain a nanobot count throughout with little top up is kind of appealing to me.) or maintaining enough of a temperature to reach a door in an area where the temperature is opposite.
Additional idea 4: The box you are carrying is actually a bomb that will go off if the nanobots get too low.
Additional idea 5: The AI is blind or you are free to switch between both at will.
Additional idea 6: You can cut blocks from ice to use against fire and find magma storing vessels to use it against fire.
Cool scenario 1: You are in a room, standing on a concrete ledge, and the lava is heating up the floor it is dangerous to touch (you have to also realize that extreme temperature is also dangerous) but there is a thick layer of ice on the roof. You can either cave the roof in which gives you temporary passage.
Cool scenario 2: You have to cross a large snow covered area and put on jackets to cross it without getting killed. About half way across the coats begin to heat up automaticaly and you have to pile snow inside them to counter the automatic heating.
Interface idea 1: The stats are shown by a human figure in the corner with a percentage on it and as various extemeties become much different from the main body they change from purple to red or blue and the total bot count starts to go down.
Well that wasn’t so bad. Now I need to check the mistakes.
